Can anyone using the fsCheck tap (Files System Check ), please post their reports in this thread ?

Although most reports will be very "boring", I would still like to see them as I might notice something that is not quite "right". They will also help me if I make improvements to the tap e.g. in analysing the SMART statistics.

When posting your report, please enclose it in a [code] ... [ /code] block (without the space before the /code); this will preserve the formatting and make it easier to read.

I've posted my main toppy box below as an example.

Geoff

This looks bad, but as this Topfield hasn't missed a beat for the last 3, 4 or 5 years I'm tempted not to mess about with it.

The root folder should normally only contain the three reserved folder names
        (DataFiles, MP3 and ProgramFiles).
If not intentional, this may be due to a user transfer into the wrong target
folder or by a corrupted file system.
To Fix: Delete or move into the correct reserved folder.

  /DataFiles/..

  /ProgramFiles/Settings/dat.lnk
        File cross-linked with "/ProgramFiles/channels.dat"
The above files share one or more clusters.
To fix (neither file wanted): Delete both files & reboot toppy.
To fix (when one file wanted):
           1) Play / Identify the good file.
           2) Copy the good file to a pc.
           3) Use pc (NOT the remote) to delete BOTH files.
           4) Reboot toppy "tapless" (hold 0 until picture shows).
           5) Restore the good file from the pc.
           6) Reboot the toppy normally.

Note: Maintain the above sequence when MyStuff is loaded.

  /ProgramFiles/Settings/MyStuff/msdat.lnk
        File cross-linked with "/DataFiles/Classic Car Rescue-4.rec"

  /ProgramFiles/Settings/MyStuff/FavLists/My Favourites.mcl
        File cross-linked with "/ProgramFiles/Settings/LcnList.xls"

  /ProgramFiles/Settings/MyStuff/FavLists/All 4s.mcl
    >>> Too many clusters (168) in FAT chain (expected 1)
To Fix (assuming rest of disk ok): Start a recording and power off after 30
seconds to cause a Verify Files and Folders

  /ProgramFiles/Settings/MyStuff/API/api.lnk
        File cross-linked with "/ProgramFiles/Settings/MyStuff/FavLists/All 5s.mcl"

  /ProgramFiles/HDFW_Firmware/[Nf] NITFix.tfp
        File cross-linked with "/DataFiles/Black Books/Black Books_1101251434.rec"

I fixed all the issues (apart from the /DataFiles/.. entry [which I don't really understand the explanation of - there only appears to be the one directory of that name], and in so doing caused a whole lot of problems with MyStuff (out of memory 14 error on startup). OOM 14 is a problem with favourites files, so I started afresh with all of them, this seemingly correcting the problem.

@TopTapper

Thanks for the report - it looks fine.

The UDMA CRC Errors are not considered a critical attribute so shouldn't be a worry unless the number keeps increasing. Suggest you run the tap again in a week say and see if the number has increased (I suspect your errors happened some time ago anyway so there probably isn't anything to worry about).

billmars's second toppy contained the following:-
Code:
  /ProgramFiles/Settings/MyStuff/MyStuff_Searches.dat
        File cross-linked with "/ProgramFiles/DialogProfile.ini"
The above files share one or more clusters.

Inspection of the two files showed that MyStuff_Searches.dat was the good file and that DialogProfile.ini was incorrectly pointing to the same area.

While this wasn't causing a problem to the running system, it could possibly have caused the MS file to be corrupted if he had run a tap that used DialogProfile.ini e.g. FastScanGUI, HDFW plus some others (these taps normally create the .ini if it doesn't exist; I'm not sure if they rewrite the file if it contains invalid data).

billmar's first toppy showed:-
Code:
 /DataFiles/..
    >>> Reserved folder (..) not second entry
To Fix: Attach disk to a PC and use TopfHDRW to repair.

Analysis of the DataFiles cluster/folder showed that the 5th entry did include a spurious ".." entry. This is probably not causing any runtime issues as most taps (and pc programs), when looping through the file entries, typically ignore any file entries that match "." or "..".

Note: Bill has decided not to fix this issue as it doesn't appear to be causing any problems.

Several cross-linked files:
Code:

/ProgramFiles/Settings/dat.lnk
        File cross-linked with "/ProgramFiles/channels.dat"
The above files share one or more clusters.
To fix (neither file wanted): Delete both files & reboot toppy.
To fix (when one file wanted):
           1) Play / Identify the good file.
           2) Copy the good file to a pc.
           3) Use pc (NOT the remote) to delete BOTH files.
           4) Reboot toppy "tapless" (hold 0 until picture shows).
           5) Restore the good file from the pc.
           6) Reboot the toppy normally.

Note: Maintain the above sequence when MyStuff is loaded.

  /ProgramFiles/Settings/MyStuff/msdat.lnk
        File cross-linked with "/DataFiles/Classic Car Rescue-4.rec"

  /ProgramFiles/Settings/MyStuff/FavLists/My Favourites.mcl
        File cross-linked with "/ProgramFiles/Settings/LcnList.xls"

  /ProgramFiles/Settings/MyStuff/FavLists/All 4s.mcl
    >>> Too many clusters (168) in FAT chain (expected 1)
To Fix (assuming rest of disk ok): Start a recording and power off after 30
seconds to cause a Verify Files and Folders

  /ProgramFiles/Settings/MyStuff/API/api.lnk
        File cross-linked with "/ProgramFiles/Settings/MyStuff/FavLists/All 5s.mcl"

  /ProgramFiles/HDFW_Firmware/[Nf] NITFix.tfp
        File cross-linked with "/DataFiles/Black Books/Black Books_1101251434.rec"

The cross-linked entries show that the file system has been corrupted at some point. Fixing these may have caused the MyStuff issues he experienced (several of the files were MyStuff related and it is likely that reading in "All 4s.mcl" caused the OOM 14 error). I will modify the "Fix" to say that MyStuff should be shutdown while fixing cross-linked issues.

Many thanks to Bill for the additional files he provided.

Geoff

Just dowloaded OK and run. Here are the results from the Solihull jury.

Not sure what "Warning: Not normally present in __ROOT__ " means though.

There shouldn't normally be a /Settings folder. Your settings should be in /ProgramFiles/Settings
