Empty settings does the same as a factory reset. Firmware update can be done using the same method as for empty settings.
Thank you, but I'm aware of that. The only reason for asking about the Factory Reset after using EmptySettings was the fact that AndyFras said he had to do both on one occasion (which I know is highly unusual) on the 5810 whose EEPROM had got corrupted, in the thread I linked to earlier.

Yes I've got that one, but it doesn't (I assume from the identical name) include the MyStuff patches.

Suggest you disconnect the disk and boot it again. This will give you a chance to blow some proper firmware into it.
It also will prove that the box is functioning properly.

Then reconnect the disk.

Should it go into a loop at this point then this implies disk corruption (which I could fix if you are bothered about what is on the disk).
Disconnecting the hard drive allowed me to use EmptySettings to reset the box, after which I had to scan for channels - which probably means I've got 6 million channels I don't want now.

However, as soon as I reconnected the drive, it immediately went back into a tight boot loop again.

So I guess we're at the point of attempting to recover the drive. In the meantime, I may try swapping in a drive from another Toppy for now.

Cool No worries, wasn't clear from your post that you knew, so thought it was worth mentioning.
