My turn to need some help!

Following the failure and subsequent replacement of our aerial booster, my 5810 is in a Loading/ Run / C457 boot loop. I'm guessing it got a bit of a shock when it could suddenly get a signal Sad

To add to the fun, I don't have a PC any more that has the Toppy tools installed. The one I do have is now running Windows 10.

So, I started by trying to run z4t, with a view to loading emptysettings using Antares, and I can catch the Toppy between loops long enough to select the driver, but The progress bar gets about halfway and then I'm told the Driver installation failed.

I'm not sure whether this is because the Toppy's rebooting again before I can complete the installation (if that matters), or whether I need to run z4t with Admin rights. If the latter, how do I go about it? I can see lots of options in Properties, but it's not obvious to me which to use.

Any ideas gratefully received. Oh and just to add to the pressure, we're due to go away first thing tomorrow morning.

BTW, if it helps, I do have a working 5800 that I could hook the laptop up to.

Julie

z4t just worked for me on Windows 10 (Pro) without any tweaks.

Why not connect your 5800 when setting up your laptop drivers rather than the 5810?

Because it's on top of a wardrobe, and not easy to get at Smile

But you did say you could connect to it, sounds as though you don't want to!

I agree with ccs; use the 5800 to install z4t/Antares (that way you know it is all working properly). Then use Antares to load EmptySettings.tfd to get control of the beast.

Unfortunately, neither connecting to the 5800 nor running as Administrator (by pinning z4t to the Start Menu, right clicking it there and choosing Run as Administrator) worked. Nor did a combination of the two.

The drivier installation still fails.

So now what?

In order to run Z4T, you may need to disable device driver signing in Windows 10. This requires you to reboot the PC in a different mode. Search for "startup settings" from the search icon.

Restarting your pc while pressing the shift key will get you into the startup settings in win10.

Well, we're back, and I've overcome the first hurdle: having disabling driver signing as per the linked thread, I've now got z4t installed on my Windows 10 laptop.

However, I have used Antares to flash EmptySettings, watched it install on the front panel, rebooted, and ...

I get NO NAME on the front panel, followed by the good old "Firmware was Changed" message, shortly to be overlaid by VF&F.

Could this be the same corrupt EEPROM issue that I remember from this thread?* And if so, how do I factory reset if it still goes into a boot loop after I've installed EmptySettings?

Or does anybody have any other ideas?

Should I just let VF&F complete, and try again?

Julie

* OK, I remembered that it had happened, but needed to refer to the link in my Toppy Memory Help page for the details Smile

Can you get access to the HD? If so, try and get Channel Organiser to run.
After a reboot run it again.

If empty settings doesn't work you can install the firmware by the same means using Antares

No. The only way it'll come out of a boot long enough for me to even SEE the Verifying Files and Folders message on the screen is immediately after installing EmptySettings with Antares.

After a few seconds with that on the screen, it just goes into endless boot loop again, and doesn't get as far as VF&F.

Um, that's what I have been doing. Emptysettings installs OK (in the sense that I can see the update messages on the front panel), but it doesn't actually resolve the boot loop.

Or do you mean actually do a real firmware update?

I read it as doing a real firmware update

Just reread one of your earlier posts implying that you are now getting VF&F and an endless loop after loading EmptySettings

Suggest you disconnect the disk and boot it again. This will give you a chance to blow some proper firmware into it.
It also will prove that the box is functioning properly.

Then reconnect the disk.

Should it go into a loop at this point then this implies disk corruption (which I could fix if you are bothered about what is on the disk).

Yes, that was going to be my next move.

The best I can find to download is the standard 5810 Recommended firmware. Is there a downloadable copy of MyStuff Recommended for the 5810 anywhere?

Or can I generate it using your offline installer software?

I'll be missing some patches anyway, but at least MyStuff Recommended will get it functioning - if it's prepared to recover at all!

Empty settings does the same as a factory reset. Firmware update can be done using the same method as for empty settings. http://www.admac.myzen.co.uk/EmptySettings/
