Last night I was chase-watching/recording Channel 4 while also recording BBC1.
The first time it happened I didn't take so much notice because I thought it was just a fluke. I think I was chasing on BBC2 while also recording BBC1. Could be mis-remembering there though.

I recall that BobD said MS doesn't do the recording; he just sets the timer and it is handled by the native firmware i.e. a failure to stop is not due to MS (unless it incorrectly set the recording duration).

My guess is that CH4 didn't broadcast the end of programme signal and Extend kept it going - check the Extend.log file.

Good call, Geoff. It certainly seems to be Extend that has caused it. Here's what the log shows:

There is no sign of an *END SIGNAL* event that should have appeared at 21:00ish.

So MS and Extend are vindicated; it was because CH4 didn't broadcast the end of the programme.

Yes, indeed. Now I understand what Extend does having read up in the last couple of hours. I wasn't really aware of it before.

I swear though that this has happened twice this week but I can't find anything else in extend.log to support that. Also both times were during chase-record. I'll have to keep a closer eye on things and look for patterns.

Thanks to all for help.

Suggest you delete the Extend.Log file; the tap will automatically create another one when it needs to write (this will make it easier to view the latest changes)

Acknowledge the message box, then installer just hangs until I force a close using the X at top right.

Message "Are you sure you wish to abort the installation" is displayed at that point, reply "Yes" and installer closes. If "No" is selected, it just returns to "Sucessfully Connected" screen with status bar about halfway across. It will stay like that for half an hour or more, I gave up at that point. The C:\Data directory mentioned does not exist - maybe a permissions issue? I tried running setup as an administrator, but no difference.

Haven't managed to reproduce this, so can't fix! The directory referred to is the source code location prior to compiling, so is useful to me but not to you. I probably need the installer log file to make any progress with a fix.

I didn't see anything in the change log about this bug being fixed. I haven't had a chance to install 6.6 yet and may not be able to for a few days, so just wondering.

I mentioned this a while ago in a previous version, but I was wondering if there was any reason why MS doesn't pass through the Satellite key if it isn't being used. Switching between boxes is a pain as I have to close every MS window before switching. It makes checking things like timers quite awkward.

Even more fun is if there is an MS window on the Toppy for some reason and you're watching the other box: you can't switch - the kids have now got used to pressing Exit a couple of times, but it would be nice not to have to bother!

I'm fairly certain that it's more fundamental than that. Restrictions in the way TAPs handle keypresses mean that MS can't pass through any keypress if there are MS screens on the display. It's just that the Satellite button is the only one you might expect to use that way with an MS screen showing.

Does anyone else have real problems with power searches on Channel 4 group channels in general, and E4 in particular, picking up unrelated shows?

For example I have a power search set for The Big Bang Theory and it continually picks up other E4 shows like How I Met Your Mother, New Girl, etc.

It wouldn't be so bad if I could exclude them easily, but when I try I have to set dozens of exclusions for alternative series it matches.

I am still on 6.5 (planning to upgrade after Christmas), but I don't see anything obvious in the change logs for this.

It's driving me nuts. Razz

Try reducing L11? (18 weeks?)
This won't help with your current issue but may minimize the problem in the future (note: this is for all channels and not just C4 or E4).

Quote:
Option L11: Search validity period Default = 24weeks
Select how long Timer Groups should be considered valid. Any Timer Group that has neither matched anything within this period nor matches anything currently in the EPG will be set to Expired, and will no longer set timers. This needs to be done as Freeview+ reuse the SeriesLink codes and that means MyStuff could record the wrong programme. This may be fixed in future versions of MyStuff.

I'll give it a try, but I'm not sure that's the cause.

When I look at the timers sorted by search, I can see timers set for multiple different shows, under the same series search. It's as if they are using the same code for multiple shows.

It always seems worse at Christmas. Another common one I get it on is the celebrity chef type shows. Have one foody show set and it suddenly picks up shows by every bugger with a spoon in their hand.

If anyone has 5 minutes to spare, could they set a power search for The Big Bang Theory on All 4's (and possibly reboot) and see if they get it cross matching like I do?
