Geoff/Juwlz, thanks for the advice but 'I have an ex toppy'
Tried to connect again via filezilla but kept getting ECONNREFUSED message. Went to switch the toppy off and all I get is a clicking sound like the HDD trying to do something.
Pulled the plug and on reboot all I get is the Format HDD option. |

Power it off immediately and get the psu checked/repaired by andyfras or mikeyp (or do it yourself). If you are lucky, the disk will still be ok.

To flesh that out a bit, first unplug the Toppy. Then repair the PSU or get somebody who knows what they're doing to repair it for you. Do not attempt to use the Toppy (even as a Freeview receiver) until this has been done.
andyfras in Fleet, Hampshire or MikeyP in Bolton both offer a quick turnaround repair service at incredibly reasonable prices. Send them a PM for details.
Alternatively, andyfras can supply a capacitor kit for a DIY repair more cheaply than the minimum order value from reputable suppliers.

Hi All
Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but is it possible to to request a feature so we can list all the programs we DONT want MS to every search. A global exclude list for all searches. A bit like the favorites files will restrict which channels are searched.
I hope this is possible soon, or maybe I can add them to the mystuffexcludes file that MS already uses?? |

Not quite sure what you're asking for here. Could you elaborate / give us an example or use case?

Just after 5 minutes searching, I have found these programs I DONT want to ever be recorded...
This Morning
Lorraine
Daybreak
Top Gear
Covert Affairs
Switched
If I could set up something so the searches never list any of the above programs.
At the moment I have to check each search and set "do not record this series" on any of these that come up.
I hope this makes sense now. |

| But why do these searches appear in your case, if you (or nobody in your household) has set them? |

I have several searches that search for a person or word instead of program name.
ie "Charlie Bordman" it works great until he is on "This Morning", then it will record every episode even without him it.
Same with "NASA" search or "Eminem" |

Same with "NASA" search or "Eminem" That kind of search is one thing that's better off done as a TS, not a PS. Even if you had the kind of global exclude that you request, once a PS has set a timer for a CRID, the child SSes will continue to record anything with the same CRID, so it wouldn't deal with the issue.

@BubblenSqueak
Make sure you kill any outstanding timers set for the old PSes (there probably aren't any but it is a good idea to check otherwise you might think something is wrong should it record something you weren't expecting).

MS should have prompted about this when the search type was changed.

Ah, wondered why that was! I just put up with it and tell MS to exclude the series. Pretty much a on-off operation. Easier than working out in advance all the programs I'll never watch just in case. |

As per the explanation, PSes are great used appropriately. TSes still have their uses, and are the better tool for catching one-off programmes that happen feature somebody or something you're interested in.
