Have just updated the Freeview.dat file to reflect the latest channel line-up, and the presence of EPG data for LCN 80. Download from here and install in /ProgramFiles/Settings/.

Thank you for updating the file
An easier way to update the file on the toppy is to use the "Tools| Install Files| Freeview.dat" option

I have just uploaded a new version (B1) of the PcControl.tap
To install this file:-
1) Run TopManager
2) Connection| Open
3) Tools| Install Files| PcControl
4) Reboot toppy.
Key features in version B1 (compared with X27a)
Uses a different method to detect command files sent from TopManager. This allows the disk to be spun down when PcControl is "inactive" while allowing "instant" detection of a command file. The only real impact of B1 should now be the memory that it uses (and that is less than that used by TapCommander).
Supports an automatic rescan of Muxes that returned no channels (note: you need the next version of TM to make this work).
Supports changing toppy system settings (again needs next TM)
There have also been various changes to optimise the code, remove debugging code and overcome potential problems detected by EMJB and myself.
Many thanks to EMJB without whom this capability would not have been possible.

Use the Tools|Install Files| PcControl option
If you don't want it in Auto Start, Use the Connection| Browse option to move it (or do it aa different way e.g. native operations with the remote)

I spend a lot of time developing TM so I was a bit taken aback at your last comment.
If you actually read the download screen, it tells you exactly from where the files are being downloaded and where they will be placed on the toppy.
If you don't want an automated install, you simply need to cancel it and perform the operations manually.

Just used this in anger for the first time today. What a useful piece of kit. It saves so much time faffing around moving files back and forwards. Much appreciated!
Two things which might make it even better:
1. When it stops and restarts TAPs in PcControl, it waits for TAPs to restart before trying to reconnect. Is the pause time configurable? My wait for MS to load the EPG and run its searches overran the timeout and failed, so I'd like to increase the timeout.
2. More of a niggle really - I edited EPG2MEI.ini to allow for BBC3 to run all day. When I later checked it after a rescan, the program had overwritten my changes. It took me a few minutes to find this out while wondering why BBC3 didn't have the correct EPG!
Finally a question: after exploring the functionality of this for a while, I checked my list of recordings to discover that about 25 files had been "moved" from a folder to datafiles. This is a folder of about 45 kids programmes. Now I'm not sure if the files were physically located in the folder, or if MS had virtually put them there. Is there any way that TopManager would have moved them? |

Geoff I think it is a very useful program, and it has saved me quite a bit of time, and I do appreciate the time you have spent on it. However I usually use the tap after a reboot holding down 0 and manually starting it for some specific purpose.
In the end I did download using the automated method, and then manually had to move the files. (BTW does it also download "freeview.dat"?)
Some people are happy with auto installs and things in their autostart, others want to retain control. e.g. with mystuff you can choose to download as an autoinstall, or to download the components and manually install. I think that to offer choice is good practice. |

Hi YJ
I think TM & Channel Organiser get values from Freeview.dat and use them to change EPG2MEI.ini and extend.ini
Now I don't want to upset yet another person who has spent their time voluntarily creating valuable resources, but recently I have taken to manually editing all of the above files. See some of my posts in the thread No EPG info for 4seven on MyStuff
If Geoff has forgiven me enough to take on board a suggestion for new features in TM: any chance we could easily check and manually change the exclude sections of the above files? |

@YJ
Thanks for your comments.
The time taken for MS to restart is dependent on the number of searches you have. In 6.4, MS doesn't release control back to the PcControl tap until it has finished processing the request whereas MS 6.5 has been modified to return control immediately. The delay is not currently customisable (I had assumed that MS 6.5 would be available by now)
The PcControl| Channel Management always updates ancillary files (.ini/.mcl etc files) after a check or Finalize (it obtains the restrictions from Freeview.dat). So, if you want to change a restriction on a channel, you need to edit this file and then use the Channel Management Check button.
(Having said that, if you had only installed PcControl today, the installation would have overwritten any previous edits in this file).
EMJB manages Freeview.dat; any time I notice a problem I tell him and he updates the file (although this may not be announced to the world). i.e. before editing Freeview.dat, I suggest you do a "Tools| Install Files| Freeview.dat" to ensure you have the latest version. If that still needs changing then send a pm to EMJB.
Note: The file doesn't currently remove the restrictions on BBC3; I'll let him know.
TM wouldn't have moved your recordings; it doesn't process anything in \DataFiles (it could but the original design was to only do \ProgramFiles and it would need quite a bit of work to make it handle recordings in a logical manner). I suspect either that the files were never in the folder that you thought they were in or that you had a minor corruption of the file system (might be a good idea to do a Snapshot| Take to protect your \ProgramFiles)

The current Freeview.dat file has no restrictions for 4Seven.
There is nothing to stop you manually changing Extend.ini and EPG2MEI.ini but you need to be aware that they will be overwritten when you next use TM Channel Management or ChannelOrganiser.tap.
