| Is there an Antares command line option to rename a file? |

There doesn't appear to be one - all the available options are detailed here
Having said that, the mv command will probably do what you want. |

I thought of trying that, but:
"PC-to-PC and PVR-to-PVR moves/copies aren't supported"

Hi Halibut,
There's no command line option to rename files at the moment, but I plan to add one.
I haven't quite decided how I'll do it yet. It would be nice to roll it into the mv option, but the mv syntax supports some pretty sophisticated stuff, like wildcards, recursion, and exclusions. It would be much easier to have a separate more basic command for renaming, which just works on one file at a time. I'm curious, if I did do the more sophisticated version, would you find that useful? |

Not especially. I have about 200 recordings that I'd like to rename from something like "Program 20100301" to "Program S1Ep4" to make it apparent what series and episode they belong to. Something that would take forever to do manually.
I've already got the filename and what series and episode they belong to in a spreadsheet. It would be very easy for me to use that to generate the rename command for each file rename, so I wouldn't need any clever wildcards, etc. |

While I'm thinking about the command line features...
I'm not sure if this is even possible or something anyone else would find useful, but I'd find it really useful to be able to change the recording date on a file on the toppy. |

halibut,
Here's a link to a new Antares executable which includes a simple rename command: antares_1_1_test1.zip. For example:
antares rename \DataFiles\QA.rec "Q and A.rec"
You need to specify the full path for the source file, but you don't have to for the destination filename.

Interesting request! It might be possible. The toppy doesn't have a USB command specifically for changing a file's date. However, when you resume a PC->PVR transfer you get to specify a new date for the file. So maybe Antares would be able to do a "zero byte resume" to change the date.
If that worked, there's still the problem of MyStuff. MyStuff seems to rely on the file's date and time to associate it with an entry in MyStuff_RecordedInfo.dat. |

Fantastic! I'll give it a try first chance I get.

That's precisely why I'd like to tweak the timestamps. I have a bunch of recordings that started out life as merged recordings that were copied and then trimmed into individuals. They all end up with the same timestamp so MyStuff can't differentiate between them. If I can tweak the timestamp, I can correct the MyStuff_RecordedInfo.dat file. |

| Ah, I see. Okay then, when I get a chance I'll see if that theory about using resume mode works. If so, it will be easy to add that as a command line option. |

Hey halibut,
I think I got the timestamp thing working. Here is the latest executable if you want to try it out: antares_1_1_test2.zip
For example, to set the timestamp:
antares datestamp \DataFiles\Thingy.rec 201201021801
To print it without setting it:
antares datestamp \DataFiles\Thingy.rec print |

Great stuff. It will be the weekend before I get enough time to give it a whirl, but I have 200+ files to rename and re-timestamp so I should be able to give it a thorough test.
Thanks again for all your hard work. I'll report back when I've tried it. |

I've just tested it on 16 recordings. It has renamed them and modified their timestamps perfectly. Fantastic.
That's running on 32bit XP with the topfield dll.
I'll now unleash it on a lot more.
Thanks again. |

I've now done over 200 files. Renamed and retimed. Not a single problem.

Great! That sounds like quite a thorough test
If you have any other suggestions or requests, let me know. |
