Just got a second bargain Toppy off ebay (for the bedroom) and the wife is complaining about how bright the display is. Can it be turned off with a tap?

No, but covering it with some tape works wonders . |

| Hi there! I have had a browse, but cant find any obvious answers. I have edited the .chn file in NOTEPAD but im unable to save back as a .chn How do I resave the document in the right format? Or does someone have one that I could use please, with appropriate short names? Also, I have Mystuff installed, and when I reboot, the DisplayApp does not start automatically. Can someone help me out please? Thanks!! |

In Notepad, choose Save As from the file menu, make sure the file type is .chn (and doesn't include .txt) and choose All Files in Save as Type.
Alternatively, Channel Organiser (which will be in /ProgramFiles/Utilities if you've installed MyStuff 6.4 fairly recently) can automatically create one for you, based on the channels on your Toppy. Quote:

Thats great, thanks. Sorry for being so non-techie, just looking for a simple solution. Is it fairly easy to use the Channel Organiser? Does it just open up on the Toppy, and then great the file I need?
THANKS! |

Channel Organiser's raison d'etre is primarily to delete duplicate and dross channels to
a) make the Toppy/MyStuff work at all (in the case of duplicates)
b) make EPG2MEI and MyStuff work more efficiently (so they're not constantly collecting and searching data for channels you'll never watch or record)
c) allow you to get rid of all the porn, shopping and other channels that you'd rather the more impressionable members of your family don't see .
It can also update your MyStuff Favourites files (allowing you to change what you see in the EPG, what order you list the channels in, and set up groups of channels to use with Searches if you want to), and other config files, including the one for the Display TAP, based on the channels you have.
It's good practice to prune away the channels you don't want. (For most people this mean pay TV - which you can't get without a CAM anyway - porn, shopping, and probably a lot of other TV and Radio stations that you're not interested in.) Typically after a channel scan you'll have 80+ TV channels and 20+ radio channels. Most people only need or want about 40 channels in total, which saves EPG2MEI and MyStuff an awful lot of processing time.
The easiest way to run it is to exit MyStuff (get any MyStuff display on the screen, e.g. the EPG, Archive or Info display, and press Menu. Scroll to the Z options at the bottom (if you're looking at option A1, press the up arrow to get immediately to the bottom), and use the option there to exit MyStuff.
Press Archive to get to the native archive. It should be showing your recordings. Press << to get to ProgramFiles, and select the Utilities folder. Then select Channel Organiser and press OK to run it.
You'll get a menu asking you what you want to do (you don't need to scan) and which config files you want to update. Make sure the DisplayTAP options is selected.
Press OK on the bottom line of the screen to select the channels you want to delete. I can't remember off the top of my head, but I think you use the White button to select / deselect each one. (You should only need to do this once - CO will remember your choices if you need to run it again, e.g. after a channel scan.) Once you've made your choices, tell CO to go ahead at each stage, and it will create / update the config files you've asked it to update.
After you've deleted channels, it's a very good idea to reboot the Toppy so that all the TAPs that use information about the channels reinitialise with valid channel info.
CO can look a bit daunting at first, but it's actually not as bad as it looks, and does an awful lot of useful things for you.
