Hi,

I'm trying to run Antares, this Windows 10 laptop had a problem earlier this year which re-installing Z4t fixed.

It's happened again! This time I can't fix it. Windows 10 64bit machine, not an upgrade.

I have the USB cable connected to Toppy and the laptop. I start Antares, which connects to Toppy and displays the list of recordings.
I select any one of many files to copy or select (say) 2 (makes no difference).
I can select 'Move' or not, (makes no difference).
I can select 'Turbo' mode or not, (makes no difference).
The directory to receive the file(s) is selected.

I click the → button, Antares says 'Finding Files' > 'Copying Files', Do nothing for approximately 15 seconds, then Windows says "Antares has stopped working".

This is exactly what happened earlier this year, re-installing Z4t makes no difference.

I've tried TopManager but can't find how to export files, if indeed TopManager is supposed to enable that, I thought I'd read that it did, but wonder if it's just Taps and Firmware that it deals with.
TopManager says there's a 'Patch' missing but I can't see where (or if) it states which patch is missing.

TM only works in the ProgramFiles folder ie it won't copy recordings.

Your missing patch is probably something in your MyInfo Log (which you could post).

Suggest you use TM to copy the MyStuff tap in "ProgramFiles/Auto Start" to your pc. If this works it proves that the transfer is possible. Then repeat the file copy using Antares (checking that Antares is also working). Assuming Antares can copy the file, this indicates an issue with it copying recordings (which are much larger than taps) or possibly a corrupt file structure eg the file sizes are incorrectly huge (or negative!).

Anyway, give the above a go and report back.

Also, did you want to use Antares to copy recordings on, off or both ? (I might suggest an alternative method)

You could also try running my fsCheck tap (usually stored in \ProgramFiles\Utilities - assuming the MyStuff 6.4 in your signature is incorrect). Please post the fsCheck log in the dedicated
fsCheck Reports thread (and not this one)

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for the reply. My Toppy is currently 'tied up' recording. Will try your suggestions when it's free.

I have used Antares to transfer recording to Toppy, but seldom, and not doing so again wouldn't bother me unduly. I do want to copy from Toppy though, this is my primary use of Antares.

I doubt Antares is dependant on any patches, otherwise you'd never have had it working in the past.

Hi,

I was trying to copy MyStuff tap but couldn't find how to do that.

I did discover this however:

Quote:

Analysing Data ...
<<< Missing file: \ProgramFiles\Logs\ChannelOrganiser Log.txt
<<< Missing file: \ProgramFiles\Settings\ChannelOrganiser.ini
<<< Missing file: \ProgramFiles\Settings\TAPCommander.ini
<<< Some files were not recognised
<<< Wrong folder: \ProgramFiles\~FireBirdLib.tmp~ - expected in folder \ProgramFiles\Logs
Analysis Complete

But don't know what to do about it.

Also: I just tried Antares in a Win.7 machine and it works correctly.

You can probably ignore the analysis - the messages show that you have never run the associated taps (although there may be some more info at the bottom of the display in an "Unrecognised Files" section (or something similarly named).

The easiest way to copy is to use Drag and Drop
1) Open up a Windows Explorer window (i.e. display a folder on the desktop where you want to store the copied file)
2) in TM, Use Connection |Browse and select the Auto Start folder - it's contents will be displayed in the right hand pane.
2) Position the mouse cursor over the MyStuff.tap file name and press and hold down the left mouse button.
3) Keep presseeing the mosue button and drag the mouse cursor over the target folder icon (displayed on the task bar in pre Win10 systems - I suspect same on Win10). The target folder should then be displayed
4) Still keeping the left hand mouse button depressed, move the mouse cursor over the target folder window and release the mouse button.

OK...

I have plenty of folders on my desktop... I'll use one called 'MyStuff' (Nothing to do with Toppy!)

Open TM: navigate to Connection > Browse Toppy > Auto Start.
Drag 'MyStuff.tap' to my desktop folder:

Error!
Quote:
C:\Users\Poppa\Desktop\My Stuff\#:\ProgramFiles\Auto Start\ is not accessible.

The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect.
Exact copy.

This could be the problem ?

The error appears to be objecting to the filepath on your pc.

Assuming you were dragging the MyStuff.tap file, the target file name should have been C:\Users\Poppa\Desktop\My Stuff\MyStuff.tap i.e. you shouldn't have seen the "#:\ProgramFiles\Auto Start\" portion shown in the error message.

The "#:" is something used by the "topfield" interface to indicate that the file is on the toppy.

As you have no control over the output file name when using drag and drop there is not much you can do to fix that.

I believe that Antares has a debugging mode but you would have to read it's documentation for how to turn on the trace (I don't use Antares so can't advise).

It could be something to do with the drivers (i.e. z4t should fix it but you say it didn't). Or is could be that w10 has applied an automatic update which has crippled it (use rollback but this could be a long ways back if you haven't used Antares for some time).

Suggest you try the TM Drag and Drop on your Win7 pc (if it doesn't work, it implies that you didn't follow my instructions completely - or I missed something out). If it does work then that a) proves you did it correctly and b) that the toppy end is ok.

You should still be able to run fsCheck on the toppy (You don't have to wait for any recordings to stop - unless you want to).

Geoff

Hi Geoff,

I can't find any reference to a debugging mode.

I thought I was doing myself a favour buying an i7 machine with the Win.10 OS. I don't like Win.10 one little bit! the chances that MS have crippled Antares are very high. All manner of utilities are buggered up by MS updates.

I'll try the test on the Win.7 machine next time it's free. Since Antares runs properly on that machine I'd expect the drag and drop to work.

There's no fsCheck.anything in Program Files\Logs. I can't see how to run fsCheck. What does this app. do?

OK, I tracked down fsCheck, installed and ran it. ( I think I ran it ! )
I can't find any results or logs to show that it's done anything.

fsCheck is normally installed in \ProgramFiles\Utilities - and I think that is also where TopManager stores it if you use the Tools| Install Files option.

I suspect that you have only copied it onto the toppy.
To run it, do the following:-
1) Press > (between << and >>)
2) Press Archive (this typically shows "Recordings" - unless you have previously changed it since the toppy booted)
3) Press the << button (to show \ProgramFiles)
4) Scroll down to Utilities and press OK
5) Scroll down to fsCheck.tap and press OK (fsCheck will display the analysis on the TV) - probably easiest to scroll up if fsCheck.tap not visible (wraps to bottom)
6) Press Archive to exit the tap and write the analysis file
7) TopManager| Display | fsCheck
8 ) Cut and paste it into a new post in the thread I previously indicated.

The fsCheck report shows that the file system structures are sound and that the disk has no hardware issues i.e. this is purely a software issue.

You now need to try the drag and drop on the windows 7 system to confirm that you are doing it properly.

In the end, I suspect that you are going to have to rerun z4t taking care to follow the correct procedure for Win10 e.g. running as administrator, allowing unsigned drivers, not connecting the toppy until z4t tells you to and anything else that others have previously posted about. (I can't help with this as my operating system is many versions earlier than Win10)

Geoff
PS: You should also use TM Tools| Install Files| PruneEPG to help handle the excess of channels that we now have (this is not related to your current problem).
