The remote for my 5810 suddenly stopped working. I have tried a Universal Remote which also does not work. I have also replaced the IR receiver which did not cure it. The Toppy is working fine if you use the buttons on the box. I changed some of the capacitors (C4,8,9,10,11,13,14,15,16) about 3 years ago. Any suggestions what to try next?

Check the remote by pointing it at a digital camera.

What component did you use when you changed the IR receiver? I've recently discovered that some are wired differently (2 & 3 swapped).

I can do a front panel circuit board exchange if all else fails.

Many thanks for reply.

I have checked remotes with digital camera-both working.
Component used:
VISHAY TSOP34436 Infrared Receiver, Remote Control, 36 kHz, 45m, 45 , 2.5 purchased from ebay.

It's slightly different to the one I've used successfully in many Toppies (TSOP34836).

For comparison, see: http://www.farnell.com/datasheets/2049436.pdf

The pinout is the same, but perhaps the difference between AGC2 and AGC4 is the key?

+1 for successful repair on 5800 with component supplied by Andy. But my local "old solderer" who assisted with repair commented how poor the soldering was on that front panel pcb, and touched up several potential dry joints after review under microscope, so maybe I didn't really need to change the chip!

Sorry about delayed reply- unreliable ebay seller.

I have now tried the TSOP34836 and this also does not work, although I am shockingly bad at soldering!

Andy, could I take up your offer of a front panel circuit board exchange? If this is still OK with you, could you DM me the details?

Thanks in advance.
