I sometimes wish I could copy just a small part of a recording, so I have both the original recording and a copy of the smaller section.

The TF5800 manual says you can copy portions of a programme by simply pressing record while paying it back, which makes a duplicate of what you're watching.

This would be really great, but it doesn't seem to work on mine, even if I shut MyStuff down.

Does anyone know a solution?

This is a known side effect of one of the firmware patches Xp, I found this but surely some newer references!

mstombs, Thanks for the info. Guess I won't be using this feature then.

Or you could use R2-D2's CutAds TAP.

Put a bookmark (bring up the playbar, and press green) at the start and end of the bit you want. Make sure there aren't any other (e.g. automatic) bookmarks in the recording, and use CutAds to save just that bit.

Read the thread in the link for more detail.

If you can make a copy of the file on the Toppy, you can always use the Toppy's native cutting of recordings on the duplicate.

It's been years since I did it, so apologies for not remembering exactly the right keys, but nothing is done till you choose at the end. You bring up the progress bar by using the Play key, and then use the Blue (or ?White) key to select the beginning of the selection. You then FF or RWD through the recording to the appropriate place and press the White (or ?Blue) to mark the end of the selection. It then asks whether you want to save the selection (and discard the rest) or delete the selection from the recording (and keep the remainder. You end up with 2 separate files

The nice thing about CutAds is that it's entirely reversible.

That would be great… if I could make a copy of the file on the Toppy. But there's no way to do that as far as I'm aware.

I was going to say press record - D'oh!

Connect a PC, copy file off, rename and copy file back. But that's a bit long-winded...

As per the second link provided by mstombs, you should be able to run the HDFW tap to dynamically remove the [Xp] patch from the running system.
This would then allow you to copy the file using the native mechanisms.
You can then either rerun HDFW to reapply [Xp] or just reboot the toppy (the change was made in memory and not to the firmware stored on the disk).

Installing and using CutAds is SO much easier!

@juwlz

True - but he said he wanted a partial copy and the original full file.
