Hi.
I have MyStuff 6.6's archive showing a single 'native' recording showing as two.

The first part is the movie and the second is the start of a 5min news break (FYI Daily) with rest of the movie. So FYI Daily is 5min but the FYI Daily is, in one case over 2hrs long.

The most recent one is Jackie Brown (55m) + FYI Daily (2h:2m) - ITV4
My K4: Split Programme Timer Combine is at default 15min

Native view shows: Jackie Brown (3Hour 1Min)

I'm unable to get MyStuff to just show the single movie.
Maybe I changed anther setting somewhere or perhaps its some kind of corruption?

I've tried MyStuff forum search, but cannot see a suitable posting.
Please help!

I'm not quite sure what you're asking here.

You have merged recordings enabled, which is why MyStuff is showing a single file as two separate programmes (each of which will have a chain link symbol next to it). That's a way of making sure that you don't miss parts of a recording on the same channel, particular when the programmes aren't running to time. The setting is also in the Timers section (K9: Merge back to back recordings).

The issue with the second programme being long is because the EPG often doesn't include the short news bulletins, so there's a mismatch between the "accurate" programme signals and the EPG, so the Extend TAP keeps the recording going for up to an extra two hours because it can't safely determine when to stop it for you.

It worries me slightly that part one is 55m (i.e. a multiple of 5 minutes). What do you have your pre- and post-padding set to? (K1 and K2). That might also be part of the problem.

Julie

Hi Julie,

It was only recently I'd ever seen those link icons when I tried to get to the bottom of this problem. I changed some setting or other to see if I can get the single recording to display. Anyway...

My K1/K2 padding is as always = "0" (no padding)
My K9: Split Program Timer Combine = 15min
My K9: Merge back to back timers = No

The 55min recording is the scheduled length of the first 'half' of the movie.

Previously, and currently if there is a small programme between two with same name, MyStuff warns me that both will be recorded as one recording:

"This programme seems to continue after 'FYI Daily'. MyStuff had extended the timer to cover both parts."

I will then have the small 'programme' (FYI Daily) within the single recording. This is normal experience for me, but now at least some are showing as separate recordings only within MyStuff archive (native shows one recording) & without chain links.
If I do enable K9 then I can see the chain links.

Neil.

As a reminder it seems appropriate to add here:
Films may sometimes be split in two by "5 News Weekend" on LCN5, "Access" on LCN21 & 30, "FYI Daily" on LCN6, 10 & 24, "Sony Movie News Extra" on LCN32 and "Flight Bites" on LCN48.

Not quite sure what you are seeing here but your problem might be down to a mismatch between the pre and post padding used by MyStuff and Extend.

Assuming you have a windows pc, suggest you use the TopManager| Tools| Check MyStuff option.

Also suggest you set the pre and post padding to their default values (2 and 6).
See the MyStuff manual for details.

While this won't affect what you are currently seeing with this recording, it will hopefully prevent further occurrences.

Geoff

Actually, if your signature is complete, @SunnysideUK, you don't appear to be running the Extend TAP. Are you?

I certainly don't recommend running with zero padding, anyway.

Yes, I've just noticed that and re-enabled it,
I've been running zero padding for years without problem.
I ignore these only warnings re. TopManager's MyStuff check.

I see how it goes on future recordings but I don't think it will fix it as its a logic problem as currently the native recording will show one file but MyStuff continually show two programmes...with chain links if I set K9.

Neil.

If you're running Extend, and Extend thinks your MyStuff padding is -2/+6, when it's actually 0/0, I'd expect the vast majority of your recordings to be up to 2 hours longer than they need to be.

@SunnysideUK, As a test you may wish to record the Sweeny Todd film on ITV2 at 21:00 which is split in two by FYIDaily at 22:05

Julie,
No, they have always recorded as expected. Correct time, no padding. Done this for years.

I will test record tonight and also on another PVRt I have.

Else I'll locate the MyStuff config file and rename it (& its backup dir too!). See if its in there somewhere which I think it must but might be some kind of corruption.

fsCheck 1.5 scan says GOOD but does say that REC shows 21 remapping attempts and 21 failed.

I was looking to replace its original WD drive but looking to keep costs to a minimum including a compatible SATA-IDE adaptor.

Neil.

Hi Bizmann, Yes I'd previously searched that by selecting the 'FYI Daily' recording part I have and doing an EPG scan on it (hold PiP button) to find the next one available, which is the one you said. Thanks.

Neil.

I think part of your initial problem is caused by the zero minutes prepad/postpad (MS doesn't realise that the 5 min program is a separate recording). Note: it used to be recommended that one shouldn't choose 5 minutes as a padding value because this is the length of a news snippet.

I suspect that you don't get excessive running recordings because the channels that you record typically broadcast the end of program signal i.e. Extend, when running, would have stopped the recording when it detected the signal.

Re fsCheck, please post the log in the dedicated fsCheck Reports thread.

Unless the disk is dying or too full, you are probably best just keeping it - storing more recordings on a larger disk increases MS startup time. Should you decide to upgrade, andyfras is the man to go to for the SATA-IDE adapter.

Sweeney Todd test recording/display was OK this time!

So, showing a single file; with bookmarks at start (started ~4min late) and one at the end but additionally two marking the place for 'FYI Daily'. The recording must have extended by 5min as when set its timer was 2hr20 but the listing is showing 2hr25.
So problem has not show itself this time...typical!
Jackie Brown's entry still shows two files for the one recorded. Unsure how much is a logical setting and something read from a log/database for its recording at that time.

Neil.

Padding of 0 minutes could also cause this problem. Changing it to -1/+1 should fix this.

I suspect it's because (according to @SunnysideUK's sig) Extend is not running at all. And I'm therefore amazed that without padding and without Extend, recordings are not frequently getting truncated.
