When SWMBO is watching something on iPlayer on the TV, the Toppy (TF5810) will occasionally wake up to record something, switching the TV to scart and killing the iPlayer app on the TV in the process.

Is there a setting / patch for the TF5810 to prevent scart switching, on power on for recording, and preserve marital harmony?

Or am I best applying a set of needle-nosed pliers to pin 8 on the scart lead? Are there any known side effects on this latter approach?

Thanks - Rufus.

Different voltages on Pin 8 are also used to set the aspect ratio, but this is probably not a problem. If you remove it carefully, you could always restore it if the aspect ratio switching does cause a problem.

I seem to remember that there was a patch or TAP to disable the source switching, but I can't find it.

It's the [Ds] patch which might help - I've a feeling it wasn't 100% successful but could be wrong.

This link is handy for finding patches....

Well done for finding it Geoff. Reading the associated thread makes me think that it will still switch the TV momentarily until the firmware loads, which will still cause a problem with iPlayer. But definitely worth a try.

Thanks Andy & Geoff,

Reading the thread it looks like the patch will still kill iPlayer, so may have to resort to removing pin 8.

I'll probably give the patch a go anyway!

Rufus.

Another option is to have the Toppy on during the day/evening and set to a non-transmitting station during the day. Then a recording starting won't affect things. The power usage difference between <off> and <on without timeshift> is tiny.

You can use MyStuff to turn on to a blank channel (I use 62 - ITV4+1) for an EPG scan, and not turn off after the scan. You can then set an off timer in MyStuff for sometime in the evening. I use 5pm till 11pm, which covers most of our watching.

I have MyStuff set to start the Toppy automatically in the morning (with an EPG scan) and not shut down afterwards. It then stays on during the day until MyStuff shuts it down automatically at night.

That way, my Harmony knows what state the Toppy is in, and it's never going to autoswitch anything while somebody's there to be interrupted by it. And if I want to use the Toppy, I don't have to wait for ages for it and MyStuff to start up.

EPG Data
T5: EPG Scan Duration=15 mins
T6: Channel for EPG Scan=BBC ONE
T7: EPG Scan Time=07:00

PowerOff
Y1: PowerOff Handler=Internal
Y2: Enable automatic PowerOff=Yes
Y3: Auto PowerOff Time=00:05
Y4: PowerOff after EPG Scan Timer=No

Thanks again everyone for the suggestions.

I tried the Deselect AV TAP (a toe in the water before trying the patch), and it still killed iPlayer on the TV before after around 30 seconds after Toppy wakes up going to a black "No Signal" screen on the TV, before it eventually gives up and returns to the last TV channel watched.

So I simply removed pin 8 from the TV end of the scart lead. I have a box full on unused scart leads now most devices are HDMI.

If that causes problems with aspect ratio switching, I'll try @YoirkshireJumbo / @juwlz suggestions of just leaving the thing on during the daytime..... sometimes you don't think of the obvious solutions - and would make switching the Toppy on less painful waiting for MyStuff to do its magic!

Rufus.
