Shouldn't it just work? I've just connected a newly refurbished 5800 for a friend, connected the USB to their XP computer and device not recognised.

I only see drivers for Vista here. I don't recall how I set my laptop up. Did Altair perhaps install the necessary drivers?

(whilst Antares might be an option it has far too much pre-requisite to be worth the effort).

Thanks

PS I have tried trawling the FAQ's and past posts.

Not sure what you have against Antares, but its website

http://haselgrove.id.au/antares/

Includes a direct link to Altair (Vista 32 and older it says)

Thank you for those links.

It was only the extra weight and maintenance of Microsoft Nets and C++ that puts me off Antares. I seem to have 8 .Nets on my computer, several C++, perhaps it is just that I've not got round to understanding what they are all about but I never seem to have the one that the next program I try to install demands so all I see is an ever growing mess that I did not want to impose on someone else's machine.

However it would seem that I have enough installed to try Antares so I now will in the next day or two.

Altair did install the necessary drivers BUT you had to do that before connecting a Toppy or else Microsoft will have helpfully installed some incompatible drivers.

If using Altair you may/will have to first delete the incorrect drivers that have been associated with the Toppy.
USBDeview may help with this

However you may have problems finding a copy of Altair these days all links I had in the past are now broken.

Move to Antares.

I agree much better than Altair, however if you really wany Altair I have an old copy (2009) of the Topfield Tools installer (which installs Altair) if you want it ?

Just run the z4t driver package that comes with Antares - you shouldn't need to de-install any previous driver.

This should allow you to do a MyStuff installation and/or use TopManager.

if you want to use Altair instead of Antares then you will need to change it's DLL
(use TopManager Tools| Dlls | Show, select the Altair directory and click the "Fix DLL" icon)
