I've just seen an article here:
http://www.reghardware.com/2012/07/31/dmol_announces_freeview_epg_revamp_for_september/
An extract:
DMOL, the organistion that provides the Freeview EPG, is rejigging the terrestrial broadcasting servicer's channel listing.
DMOL (DTT Multiplex Operators Ltd) said yesterday that the newly organised EPG will debut on 19 September. Kit not set to automatically spot the change and to retune accordingly, will require manual retuning. There will be on-screen prompts to remind you.
The change is all about shuffling the channels to make room in the listing for more stations of given types. For example, HD services will be shifted from channels 50 to 101, in the process gaining room for 20 HD channels in all. |

Shouldn't be too much of a problem. The LCNs will change, but the broadcast frequencies are unaffected. More info & discussion here.
This should really have been started under the Freeview forum. |

Seems Sky have complained about being moved from 82 to 133 so the channel changes will not be done for the childrens and news genre the other changes will happen.
See here
So looks like we will have to do another rescan later in the year.

Presumably this will need a national retune on 19th September?
Trouble is, we are on holiday! Assuming channels that are not moving will not affect recordings, is there a list anywhere of the channels which are and are not moving? Just to save me working it out! I am hoping the channels we tend to record from are not moving. |

You will need to do a retune on the Toppy before any channels move, so while you are on holiday your current channel lineup will stay unchanged.
When you get back from holiday you can do a retune and sort out any channel moves at your convenience. |

If all they are going to do is change the LCNs, then I suspect the situation will be that until you retune, most things should continue to work correctly, but with the old LCNs.
(The Toppy stores the LCN with the transmitted signal details during the scanning operations, and uses that association to convert LCN channel requests to the channel details required to tune to the required channel, I believe. Channel changes implemented by TAPs do not use the LCN data, leaving the TAP to do the LCN association effectively using a copy of that association table. Likewise I believe the EPG data is identified by Service ID rather than LCN, and I assumme the former will not change - R2-D2 comments please!!).
When you do retune, the biggest issue will be TAPs etc such as MyStuff (notably favourites), EPG2MEI, and rt2mei plus your timers if you use any of the moving channels. Channel Organiser includes logic to cope with LCN changes and update the relevant files and timers, but there has been no opportunity to test it properly. I'm not sure to what extent Geoff Bacon has included similar features in TopManager.
The good news is that the proposed changes do not seem to be anything like as drastic as those originally proposed.

TopManager does include logic to detect/cope with LCN changes but this has only be tested by artificially modifying/injecting channels i.e. it may not work in the real world when there are multiple changes.
I will also be out of the country on the 19th Sept so won't be around to make any quick alterations should the need arise!
I'll check through the sources to minimsise any issues.

As far as the Toppy is concerned, most people will not be recording any channels that are to have a different LCN so there is no need to panic. Keep calm & stay viewing. |

As we are getting nearer to the day, I thought I would mention those changes most likely to affect the average Toppy user. Firstly what is not changing, the radio channels stay the same, as do all LCNs below 48.
LCN49 Food Network moves to 48 and
LCN60 The Jewellery Channel to 49
Childrens channels 70-72 move to 121-3 and the newsy stuff in the 80s moves to 131 upwards (but without any gaps)
Don't forget to update your MyInfo file in your profile afterwards. |

Not quite right, childrens and news channels aren't moving yet as Sky have complained see here
"They" think we all enjoy rescans so looks like we'll have another one when Sky come to an agreement.

Yeah, I forgot about that, I was reading from notes I had made earlier in the month. |

| Actually, Al Jazeera has already moved from LCN89 to LCN84. (And in pre-DSO areas they now have a separate LCN of 83 for a morning slot from 0600-0800). |

Now the main service - Al Jazeera Eng from 1800-2300 - has hopped to LCN83, swapping with the 0600-0800 slot which is now on LCN84. And the 0600-0800 slot ('Al Jazeera 6-8') is now available everywhere, not just in the two remaining pre-DSO areas.
It's all very odd, and one can only hope it's a precursor to Al Jazeera going 24h on LCN83 with LCN84 then being dropped. |
