I'm running the 5810 with Mystuff 6.4 (6.3 until this morning) off the Nottingham transmitter on Freeview.
The EPG guide, which was only showing 3 days worth under 6.3 has now improved to 7 days, but I seem to remember it being nearer 14 days. Am I mistaken or is there something that can be done?
I note http://www.freeview.co.uk/Resolutions/About-Products/General/Problems-with-the-TV-guide-EPG-on-some-FTA-Thomson-or-Digifusion-boxes but am not sure if this affects me in any way. |

The Freeview guide is only 7 days (creeping into 8?)
When you install MyStuff, it can place an initial EPG file on the disk that is 14 days long; this is gleaned from the Radio Times web site.
If you only updated MyStuff today, you should either have 14 days (if the EPG file was downloaded) or 7 days (if captured over the air - [delete] perhaps you haven't waited 40 minutes with no keypad action?[/delete]).
Suggest you check that MyStuff option R1 is set to EPG.mei (If I remember correctly)

The EPG guide, which was only showing 3 days worth under 6.3 has now improved to 7 days, but I seem to remember it being nearer 14 days. Am I mistaken or is there something that can be done? Any OTA Freeview EPG will only give you 7-8 days' worth of data, i.e until just after midnight in a week's time.
You can increase this to 14 days by downloading and transferring Radio Times data to your Toppy, and EPG2MEI can merge this with the OTA data to get the benefits of the Series Link data for the coming week, but since you have a 5810, you will have to be very VERY careful not to run out of memory, or you're likely to get all sorts of unpredictable problems, including, but not restricted to, corrupting your hard drive. When you do a brand new MyStuff installation (i.e. one where you have no EPG file at all), the installer will copy a "starter" file, which includes RT data.
See Toppy Memory for more details.
Even without Radio Times data, I can't stress enough how important it is to prune your channel lineup down to about 40 or less (including radio) on any 5810 running MyStuff to avoid those same problems.

Thanks to all. I'll leave things as they are if that is how they should be working but certainly for the past few days only a 3 day epg hence my action to check and update.
More trouble I think than it's worth to try and be clever with manual downloads. |

Log below. I only tune to Nottingham using fastscangui.tap, though to be honest my aerial is pretty iffy (overdue a new one) and reception of some MUX Channels is poor eg the MUX that Pick 11 is on. The new SignalMonitor.tap appears useful and at first glance tuner 2 is better than tuner 1.

Memory - Free: 7 MB, Available: 6 MB That's 115 channels, not 40.
At the risk of repeating myself, that's asking for trouble on a 5810. Only very recently, somebody's hard drive got trashed as a result of memory corruption because they didn't delete channels. And the more channels you have, the more chances you have of hitting the "disk wipe due to poor signal" bug.

I'll have a go at pruning. Is there a TAP that retains the selections for re-tuning purposes? However as I've mentioned earlier my aerial requires attention and even if I prune I am likely unlikely to remove all weak transmissions channels (MUX's). |

Please just read the Toppy Memory article. Everything you need to know is in there: WHY you need to do it, HOW you do it (including remembering channels), and the probable consequences of NOT doing it.
Reducing the possibility of getting a poor signal is actually a fairly incidental side-effect.

Thanks and sorry for stretching your patience. There is an awful lot of stuff to absorb and there seems to have been a lot of development since I last seriously looked when I first installed MyStuff. DSO has meant a lot of retuning and I thought I had done well to find some of the taps that I already have.

If you haven't already got FastScanGUI, Channel Organiser etc there, re-run the installer. It won't overwrite any of your settings.

Yes, they were there though I already had them. I had misunderstood the functions in Channel Organiser. Got rid of some channels and my duplicated TAPS and will try more pruning today. As I'm not encountering any particular problems at the moment I think we can put this thread to bed and I'll raise a new topic if (when) I need further help. Thanks for staying with me. |

That information is now quite old. The InView 14 day EPG closed down just over two years ago making the various boxes involved (including the popular DHD4000 and Digifusion ranges) rather cumbersome to programme.
Unfortunately, the page you linked is undated so it can be misinterpreted as being current, but it was probably inserted sometime in June or July 2010.
See also this page dating from 29 June 2010. |
