Well... you did ask...
A dir command would be really useful for getting an inventory of all the recordings on the toppy disk... |

| Dear Henry. I've come to Anteres late, having been using Altair for the last 6 years. I'm using Anteres on Windows 7 32 at the moment (prior to upgrading to 64 bit when I get the time) and my, what a breath of fresh air it is. The user interface is much better designed and is far more responsive than Altair. So a hearty 'thank you' for an excellent tool which will help extend the life of our Toppys. |

Thank you johnniegif! I like feedback like that
It's a little bit sad to think of all the people who are still suffering with Altair |

That's great work AndersG, thank you! I'll include it in the next release.
In the mean time, here is a test version that I just compiled, so you can see the results of your hard work: antares_1_1_test3.zip. |

| The single greatest thing about Antares, for me, is the ability to move (not copy) files. It saves me a whole bunch of trouble remembering which files I have transferred. |

I've had a problem using Antares (antares_1_1_test3) to copy a directory (ProgramFiles) with subdirectories onto my pc.
It's reported in a different thread. |

Firstly many thanks for Antares - it is indeed a breath of fresh air, for me the ability to toggle on/off "Turbo" mode so SWMBO can watch something whilst I'm attempting to copy off files is a fantastic.
I had one small issue last night (whilst trying to fix a 5810 stuck in a boot loop), in that Antares got stuck on an empty file.
One of the MyStuff files I was trying to backup on to my PC appears to have been 0 bytes, as Antares was copying it, it reported ever increasing number of bytes copied, but clearly nothing much was happening on the PC end. After 5 mins I aborted the process, and re-copied the subdirectory minus the empty file.
I was more focused on fixing the Toppy than reproducing the problem but I wonder if the file was missing an EOF marker that Antares was expecting.
What information would help to identify the issue.
Thanks - Rufus. |

@RufusA
Although the file was reported as being 0 bytes, it may have been a negative value (caused by a marginally corrupted file system) which has been rounded to 0 so that it can be displayed in KByte units.
I had a similar problem on my toppy when using the SnapShot| Take option in TopManager. The end result was that TM just kept trying to copy bytes for ever (I suppose it may have stopped at some point but I wasn't going to hang around waiting).
I have now modified TM to warn if it detects that a file has a negative file size.

@Geoff thanks for the response and detailed explanation. It also prompted me to look into TopManager which will definitely be a useful tool to keep my toppy in rude health (touch capacitors).

I thought it might help others if I gave an example of a batch file I've written which:
1) Backs up my program settings
2) Deletes the multiple MyStuff backups
3) copies various series to my laptop.
The laptop is running winXP, and I have installed the USB accelerator (up and down) patches on the toppy.
The "-x" is used to exclude files, so the older mystuff backups and epg files are not copied over.
I recently changed some of the values from 2012 to 2013 to cope with the new year, you may need to change some values if you want to exclude or delete files with "2012" in their name.
This uses "-t0" for the slower copy, but can also of course be adapted for turbo mode by chaning those to "-t1"
Note that quote marks are used for names with a space in them.
NB If used as below this will delete some files without asking you for confirmation - the mystuff backup files, so perhaps do a manual backup before you run for the first time. (Or alternatively delete the "-f" from the command line so that you are given the option to confirm deletes)
Code:
cd "C:\Program Files\Antares"
Antares cp ProgramFiles E:\toppy -x EPG.mei;EPG.raw;EPG_diff.mei;MyStuff.dat.2013*;MyStuff_Searches.dat.2013*;*.tmp;MyStuff.mei -t0
Antares rm tf:\ProgramFiles\Settings\MyStuff\MyStuff_Searches.dat.2013* -f
Antares rm tf:\ProgramFiles\Settings\MyStuff\MyStuff.dat.2013* -f
Antares cp tf:\DataFiles\Films D:\vids\2012 -t0
Antares cp "tf:\DataFiles\Ripper Street" E:\recs -t0
Antares cp tf:\DataFiles\Borgen E:\recs -t0
Antares cp tf:\DataFiles\Revenge E:\recs -t0 |

For information, we are actively working on recruiting beta testers for MyStuff with a view to finally getting it out there.
That includes a new backup mechanism which allows the user to specify how many backup files they want to keep, and also includes a recovery mechanism to go back to a related set of dated backups, so that part of the batch file will become redundant once 6.5 is available.
