Hi,
I have a 5810 on firmware 5.15.09T
I did a factory reset and rescan yesterday 7/3/2012 to update the Topfield for changes to the Rowridge transmitter.
I can view the new channels OK, but have a problem with recording, especially on BBC1 and 2.
When I use the EPG to set up a recording on BBC1 it becomes duplicated and two identical timers are set up.
When I use the EPG to set up a timer on BBC2 it also duplicates the entry, but the timers set up refer to BBC1 not BBC2.
The recording system is obviously confusing channels.
The EPG is showing the correct programmes for the channel however.
Anyone have similar problems?
And a solution would be appreciated!!!
Many Thanks |

You've almost certainly got duplicates channels after the rescan - you'll have picked them up from different transmitters.
You'll need to delete the duplicates.
Press ok to get the channel list and then select the ones you want to delete using the red button (I think).
If you want to start using Taps, FastScanGUI will scan for your specific transmitter, and ChannelOrganiser can be used to get rid of unwanted channels. |

Many thanks for your rapid response.
There was only one duplicate channel and that was BBC4.
I've factory reset again, and this time just scanned in the new C24 at 498Mz.
This gives just gives me the BBC set, with no duplicate channels reported on the channel list.
Again I can view the channels OK, but on using the EPG to set up timers I am still getting duplicates. An attempt to record a BBC 1 programme gives me two identical timers for BBC1. Attempting to set up a timer for BBC2 I get two timers, one for BBC1 and one for BBC2.
Any more ideas? |

| Did you do a factory reset before scanning? This is needed to get rid of the old channel information. |

Hi,
Yes I reset before scanning to remove old channels.
Curiously enough I have just rescanned my venerable old Topfield 5800, and this works fine ie it doesn't set up duplicate timers. Shame it's so old.
So the problem seems to relate to the 5810 only.
Could be related to the Freeview+ system it uses I suppose, but i'm only guessing.
Any ideas on how to fix the problem on the 5810?
Never used Taps, so i'm not sure if they would help or not. |

What version of firmware(software) is in your 5810? |

Might be worth trying to get the MyInfo tap working - post the results here and there may be some more clues to work on.
The link is in my signature.
Similar thread here. (or read the next post)
A very long thread here. |

See Help! in my sig for how to install and use MyInfo manually. It should tell us where the problem is. It might even fix it .
If you've never connected your PC to your Toppy, you will first need to install some additional tools (Windows / Linux / Mac)
If you have a Windows PC, the TopManager application makes it easy to install MyInfo, collect the results, post them in a thread and set up a forum signature from the information gathered by MyInfo.

Thanks to ccs for providing the link to the long thread on people with similar problems last year. It seemed to relate to switchover problems on another transmitter.
Not sure how they solved it, it seemed to disappear once the switch over was complete. The Rowridge switch completes on 21 March, so maybe the prob will resolve then.
I've run MyInfo. This showed 7 duplicated radio channels 700-708, which I let MyInfo delete. This didn't resolve the problem unfortunately
I re-run MyInfo and obtained the following logs:

| It is recommended practice to remove all channels that you do not need (pay, shopping, porn, etc) as it gives the Toppy less work to do and also uses less memory. This may have no bearing on your problem though. |

I doubt it will in this case as there's around 15Mb of RAM to play with. More than enough given the OP doesn't use TAPs.
Logs look okay to me too Given that Rowridge looks to be a complicated Tx going through DSO
Might be worth checking the signal strength. Crude method, watch and record the same programme and use the N&N display every now and again to see if there are any fluctuations. More scientific would be to run the signal monitor TAP for a while and then post the results here. |

My parents are on Rowridge. These days their Toppy is in the spare room and I use it . Unfortunately, it doesn't help much, as I won't be down there to find out what it's doing for another 2 weeks, which will take us past 21 March anyway.

I am having the same problems.
Initially did autoscan, got duplicate channels, deleted the duplicates but found the epg was wonky, recording the wrong channel or creating duplicate timers.
I have now done a factory reset, got the new mux list for rowledge and manually tuned.
The old mux list:
MUX:1-ch23
MUX:2-ch28
MUX:A-ch30
MUX:B-ch32
MUX:C-ch26
MUX:D-ch33
The new MUX list:
MUX:1-ch34
MUX:2-ch32
MUX:A-ch30
MUX:B-ch28
MUX:C-ch37
MUX:D-ch33
Source: http://www.ukfree.tv/txdetail.php?a=SZ447865
HOWEVER! when I did this I am unable to get all the channels, in particular, I am missing BBC1 and BBC2.
Is the MUX list wrong? how do I find out?
The dates for the mux list are:
Sunday 15th November 1998 to Wednesday 25th March 2009 old mux list
Wednesday 25th March 2009 to Wednesday 7th March 2012
After Wednesday 21st March 2012
Which leaves a gap between march 7 and march 21.
I am confused. |

Having played a bit more, I have got BBC1 and BBC2 by including CH24 which is not meant to be available until after the 21st but the epg is still not right.
I have just tried to record a film tonight on BBC2, the epg thinks its a series, there is no indication on the epg that it is listed as a recording and when I look in the menu/timer setting, it says it is recording BBC1???
Any ideas, Nick. |
