I have set my Toppy up with the BlankStuff TAP to default to Teletext or BBC Red Button channels in order to give a blank screen on startup etc.
Now (from this week), however, those channels all seem to have a title screen. Are there any genuinely blank channels left? |

Pants! That hasn't affected me (Redruth transmitter) yet. Sorry to hear it
What kind of title? I assume you have Interactive Off.
That could get very irritating. |

Yes, I do have interactive set to off. |

Good suggestion.
Bode, if this works and you end up with the relevant channels completely blank, let me know and I can tweak BlankStuff to use them, no problem
(I really must get around to doing a .ini file for BlankStuff!!)
edit: there may be a problem with the EPG in this case. If the Toppy sits on an artificially generated blank channel it won't have an EPG. Not sure if it gets the EPG from just the primary service (visible tuner) or if it can get it from the sub service as well (second tuner). If the latter we may be OK.
I guess we are lucky that BobD put so many nice new features into MS 6.4 for us - I think MS 6.4 will do nearly everything that BlankStuff does. Thanks, BobD. |

Mark, I have installed the Blank Channels TAP, and used it to - er - install some blank channels.
How do I get BlankStuff to use these instead of the Red Button channel, etc.? Would it need a new version of BS? |

New version 2.5.1 just emailed to you, uses 901, 902 etc which I think is right
Fingers crossed it'll work first time (no I don't believe it either)
Let me know how you get on, happy to debug as necessary
I must do that .ini file.

| Mark, did you ever get round to writing an .ini file for BlankStuff? The reason I ask is that I have just done a retune, and get BBC Red Button instead of a blank screen, because that's what is on 901 now. (This despite using the Blank Channels TAP.) |

Your signature, if it accurately reflects your toppy, shows that you are running several old taps (MyStuff, CO, myInfo). Suggest you upgrade to MyStuff 6.4. Assuming you can use the windows installer for MyStuff, this can also update the other taps. Having done that, please post your myinfo Log file.
If you have windows, try TopManager (link in my signature) and use the "Display| MyInfo Log" and "Tools| Update Forum Profile" options.

Gah! Why do they keep changing things. That's weird, I thought the 900s were sacrosant. So what blank channels do you have on the first mux?
V happy to do you another special, 2.5.2 I guess it will be. Just give me a blank LCN on the BBC mux, I'll do it now.
Let me dig into .ini files, someone told me where to look a while ago. |

| I didn't realise that a newer version of MyStuff was out. I shall certainly load that, and probably the newest Channel Organiser, though I used the present version of that today with no problems. I tend to belong to the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" school. |

Well in this case it may be that "if it ain't broke then it may soon be". MS 6.4 makes fewer calls to a system service that has been know to trash the file system (this is not restricted to MS, it is just that earliers versions used this function extensively). Also, the later versions of the taps have been written to handle changes in how things are broadcast; perhaps you haven't been through DSO yet?

Bode, I've got a version with a .ini file going. Only took half an hour
I've got to stop now, but I'll do some checking tomorrow and maybe have a version you can try
Basically it's a 4 line file each line is a 3 digit LCN.
Fingers crossed! |

BTW, my current BlankStuff version is 2.6. |

Well, I installed MyStuff 6.4, and BlankStuff has reverted to booting up to a blank channel (105), which it was doing before my retune this morning, when it was took to starting with 901.
So no need for any changes, but thanks anyway. |
