Do you see HDFW trying to close all your TAPs? There are issues in there, I'm sure, but maybe not in HDFW's control.

FireBird has done an update using some of the changes from v2.3d. There's an extra one that went in at the last minute which slows down some patch detection but offers the possibility of being less restrictive. I'm still in two minds about it, though. Smile

FireBird's also made the alternative firmware filename and native date adjustment optional (one in the .ini and the other on the patching screen).

No. As soon as I press the OK button to load HDFW, the Toppy reboots.

These are some bl@@dy obvious questions but I will ask them anyway:

You have seen the TAPS I have loaded (in previous post thanks to MyInfo). I don't believe they are excessive. I do have a lot of patches applied but the main hog is MyStuff. How can I reduce memory load without losing the stability I have become used too?

Is 6 - 6.5M normal for MyStuff?

Is it because I use rt2mei to merge mei data?

Yeah, but how much free memory do you have before doing that? HDFW uses a bit of memory just to start (like a lot of TAPs with a GUI). From your other memory reports you could easily be running extremely low on memory when you start, and that'll just make the firmware crash (it doesn't cope properly with low memory).

Now, quite why you've got so little memory left on what seems to be a reasonable installation I don't know. Have you got any rogue .mei files? Or a huge MyStuff.dat? Or thousands of .rec files?

Sorry posts crossed. I have just remembered something. I forgot to boot the Toppy clean (without TAPS) when I tested HDFW 2.4 last night. That certainly won't help matters (understatement).

.mei files are all 200 - 400K. I have not checked MyStuff.dat. I think I will backup the .dat file and re-install MyStuff.

I will try and report back. Thanks R2.

I've seen this now. But only because I did the rarest thing in the whole world and went and looked at one of the "games". It does seem like this puts the Toppy in a weird state and the simple act of pressing Up arrow on the initial HDFW screen gives corruption. Seems benign, though. OK. I have removed all TAPS, except MyInfo and HDFW v2.4.

I have done a factory reset.

MyInfo shows 15GB free memory.

As soon as I load HDFW v2.4 the Toppy STILL reboots Crying or Very sad

Could it be a clash with one of my installed patches?

HDFW v2.3a works.

You're right! I suspect it's most likely an issue with FireBirdLib, since v2.3d works fine on my TF5810 and that's the most likely thing to be different in FireBird's build. (Does v2.3d work for you?)

No. both 2.3d and 2.4 cause instant reboots. v2.3a is fine and works OK.

I am just in the process of flashing to the basic f/w 5.15.09+ as a temporary measure to isolate any patches I have installed.

From what you say that shouldn't make any difference but as I am half way there I will carry one.

Even with the basic 5.15.09+ firmware loaded HDFW v2.4 causes an instant reboot when run.

Going back to my original set-up and waiting for the Boffin's to sort this one out.

At least it's not me!

I've downloaded v2.3d just in case I was using a slightly different version and that works on my TF5810. Confused

Anyway, I've recompiled v2.4 with the older version of FireBirdLib that I've currently got installed, and that seems to work too. Does that work for anyone else on their TF5810?

Aargh. This is the same weird problem I had when testing the FileSelector on the TF5810. It's not to do with FireBird's new LibFireBird per se, but the slightly different code layout it gives. That's enough to make whatever problem there is rear its head, with crashes that have trashed the stack and make for unintelligible crash reports. And (as previously) adding some debug printing makes the problem go away. Rolling Eyes

Something somewhere is (I think) trashing the stack well enough to, for example, trash the memory containing the running code. It's going to be hard to find, but I suspect it's a general bug that just overwrites the wrong memory benignly at other times.
