simexi wrote: Yep. It says that. The patch only affects a TAP's view of the EPG data, so if the native EPG shows "Unclassified" for the genre for every programme then a TAP cannot do any better. You could try complaining to your broadcaster, or maybe use an alternative data source and upload it using mei2eit or similar (in the UK some people do this using the much richer, 14-day RadioTimes data). |

R2-D2 wrote: OK... a new kind of patch, which is a cross between the normal (generic) patch and the complex (non-generic) patches. [De] DescExt V6 (with Genre) will provide genre info for selected firmwares where I could find the info, but otherwise (and generically) it will provide 0 as the genre info. This works fine with PlasmaEPG 2.00-RC, thanks! |

I'm running the MS recommended f/w, which appears to have [De] installed. Any idea which version of [De] this is likely to be as I'm not getting any genre info in a genre-enabled EPGN, but if I try to reapply [De] v6 I get a 'Not intended for this firmware' message in FWPatcher
Any ideas ? |

Which version of the MS Recommended Firmware are you using? If you upgrade to the latest one this has the latest v6 De with Genre.

| Have you got the modified version of EPGN patched to work with the De firmware patch? |

| Hmm - puzzling. I'm definitely not getting any genre info anywhere in the program description. Is it something that only appears for certain broadcasters (although I did leave the Toppy in beeb 1 for a good 30mins before looking) ? |

| If it's in the native guide, it should appear in the data visible to TAPs, unless I got the offset of the genre byte wrong when I added it to EPGN, which wouldn't be entirely surprising. |

| That's what I was going to try next (ie see if the genres appear in the native EPG). Once I know its there I ca root a bit deeper into the code. Biggest pain in the bum is that in order to test I need to connect the Toppy to my PC (in a different part of the house). How do you more active (& experienced) TAP writers get around this ? |

Use an Asus or a Slug to network the Toppy. I used to use an extra long USB cable, but it eventually got vetoed . |

| PC about 7m from the Toppy, with USB running under the floor. I managed to dig out a 10m serial cable and co-ax which makes a big difference. I can sit at the PC and control it and see what's on the Toppy. |
