I have knocked together a new TAP, MyInfo, to display/log key information about your Toppy. This is principally aimed at "newbies" as a means of easily accessing various information which may be of use when reporting problems with other TAPs.
It can be used in either of two ways:
? Manually run from any directory, in which case the data is logged and then presented on screen until any key is pressed at which point the TAP closes down
? Automatically run from Auto Start, in which case it will log the settings etc approximately one minute after boot (to allow other TAPs to start) and then shuts down. In this mode there is no on-screen display of the settings.
The screen shot below indicates the information available:
 .
with slightly more info in the log file (see example in the zip file.
Download from here.
Feedback welcome.

Other information worth including?
Time Shifting status;
AV settings (including Aspect Ratio);
MUX channels in use. |

This looks very useful, especially for people who want to report bugs.
Is it worth including the toppy's up-time in the log. |

Am loathe to extend the parameters recorded to those that are very transitory (such as Time Shifting) or those that are unlikely to be related to TAP problems, and of course display of much more will become a real problem. However if you (or anyone else) can point to occasions when this would have helped with problems posted on this site, I would be happy to reconsider.

I must admit I originally saw the Auto Start mode as being the norm, in which case the answer would always be 1 minute. However will consider this for next version if any TAP authors think it would be helpful.

Reception problems and TV confusion over aspect ratio handling problems are staple fare on here and elsewhere.
By Time Shifting status I meant just the ON / OFF'ness setting which R2 has alluded to in the past as causing problems along with Interactive Services being turned on. |

What does the text output look like? (I'm 10 miles away from my Toppy atm.)
(Actually, CW, I reckon it's definitely worth sneaking this TAP into both the Full Installation zip file and the Installer for MyStuff .)
Up time (at least in manual mode) would certainly be useful for problems that occur after time (e.g. those relating to memory clog-up). I'd also find it useful for determining whether PowerManager actually did shut down (and start up again in the morning) as expected last night ... that sort of thing.
I guess the Autostart version will be of limited use after crashes with VF&F with large numbers of (usually MP3) files, as it's possible that VF&F will still be chugging away a minute after reboot, but in that case, it's hardly going to be a big deal to run it again manually if necessary.
This one's definitely going into Auto Start on my Toppies

For the hardcore minority who don't need this TAP to tell them all about their toppy you are correct. But for what I perceive as the majority of people who post problems I suspect they will only run this when someone tells them to, and it seems quite a few leave their toppys on all the time. |

Thanks Sonic - I didn't ... but it just occurred to me that including the up time would also be useful as a way to allow troubleshooters to see whether the output was produced by Auto Start or manually in those cases where it might make a difference.

One question: Your screenshot shows MyStuff running, but not eit2mei.
Is this because eit2mei wasn't running at the time (e.g. because you use RT data), or because it's a "background" TAP?

I use RT data, not eit2mei - all running TAPs should show up in the list. Before anyone asks, TapTest is a special I use that allows me to control & monitor my Toppy from my PC so I can test TAPs remorely while SWMBO is watching TV.
