To save this thread from growing and growing with 'update' posts, I *think* you can just edit the first posts(s) and that will be enough for the thread to show as having 'new' posts to the rest of us.

I toyed with the idea of incorporating their IDs in my database, but I went off the idea when the links can't be localised to Freeview (they default to everything, which clutters things up and confuses new/unregistered users). For example, Rescue Me.

Yeah, my example shows a non-Freeview time, too. Its a pity because there is alot of potential in that site.
